We are a nursing school that believes in learning. We believe that learning is an interactive process in which faculty and students share responsibility to meet program outcomes. We believe in using educational methods that are current and supportive of students in the teaching and learning environment, with the presentation of information from simple to complex.

We are also a school that believes in nursing as a dynamic profession, blending science with the use of evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning with the art of caring and compassion to provide quality patient-centered care.

To support these beliefs and values, we have integrated competencies from the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) and National League of Nursing (NLN) into our philosophy as part of our core values.

SIMULATION LABS

The Simulation Lab at Coastal Alabama Community College is a state-of-the-art, high-fidelity simulation lab. This facility provides students with the opportunity to practice skills learned in their coursework and apply them in a safe environment. The Simulation Lab is divided into two rooms: one for medical emergencies and one for surgical emergencies.

The medical room features a patient bed with simulated vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate), as well as IV pumps that can be controlled manually by the students or automatically by the instructor. In this room, students are able to practice taking blood pressure readings, obtaining an electrocardiogram (ECG), administering medications orally or intravenously, and performing CPR on a dummies with lifelike skin tone and facial expression. The surgical room has all of the same features as the medical room, except it also has an operating table and various pieces of equipment used in surgery (such as retractors and clamps). Students can use these tools to practice suturing wounds closed or cutting open incisions made during surgery.

Associate Degree Nursing (RN) Program

Bay Minette, Brewton, Thomasville Campus: Apply August 1 – October 1 for Spring Semester entry. View Application

• This is a full-time day program designed to prepare students to practice as competent registered nurses (RN) after passing the licensure exam.
• Students are awarded a Practical Nursing Certificate upon completion of the third semester and are eligible to take the practical nursing licensure exam for LPNs.
• Students who successfully complete the five-semester program are awarded an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and are eligible to take the licensure exam to become an RN.

Practical Nursing (LPN) Certificate Program

Atmore Campus: Apply August 1 – October 1 for Spring Semester and April 1 – June 1 for Fall Semester entry. View Application

Bay Minette Campus: Apply January 1 – March 1 for Summer Semester entry. View Application

• This is a full-time day program designed to prepare students to practice as competent Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
• Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Practical Nursing Certificate and are eligible to take the licensure exam to become an LPN.
• Graduates of this program may apply for the Mobility (LPN to RN) Program to complete the associate degree in nursing after having passed the NCLEX-PN.
• Students are not allowed to continue in the traditional ADN track past the third semester.

Mobility LPN & Paramedic to ADN (RN) Program

Application Cycle: April 1 – June 1, for Fall Semester entry on the Bay Minette, Brewton, or Thomasville campus. View Application

• This application is for current, Alabama licensed LPNs and Paramedics who would like to complete the Associate Degree in Nursing.
• This program is offered each fall semester on the Bay Minette, Brewton, and Thomasville Campuses.

Night and weekend nursing programs in Alabama offer students a unique opportunity to earn a degree in just two years.

Students gain hands-on experience as they study topics like human anatomy, pharmacology, and caring for patients with chronic illnesses.

As a result, these programs are designed to prepare students for careers as registered nurses.

Students can choose between online or on-campus programs.

On-campus programs allow students to interact with other students, professors, and staff members while they attend classes at the university campus location. Online programs allow students to complete their courses from anywhere in the world using an Internet connection and computer.

Both types of programs provide similar benefits such as:

• Being able to complete the program quickly without having to wait for semesters or quarters; • Having flexible scheduling options that allow you to take classes on nights or weekends; • Being able to complete assignments at home instead of going into an office environment every day; • Having access to tutors who can help you when you need extra help with coursework; • Not having any distractions from external sources such as traffic jams or noise pollution because there will be none! (You’ll learn in peace).
